The Supreme Lord said: O Arjuna, now I shall explain to you My prominent divine manifestations, because My manifestations are endless. (10.19)

지고의 주님께서 말씀하시기를 : 오 아르쥬나여, 나 이제 그대에게 나의 거룩한 현현(顯現)들 중에서 두드러진 것들을 설명해 주리니, 그것은 나의 다양한 형상은 한이 없기 때문이니라.

The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Yes, I will tell you of My splendorous manifestations, but only of those which are prominent, O Arjuna, for My opulence is limitless.

The Blessed Lord said:

19. Very well, now I will declare to thee My divine glories in their prominence, O Arjuna! There is no end to their detailed description.

COMMENTARY: The Lord's divine glories are illimitable.

O Arjuna, I am the Atma abiding in the heart of all beings. I am also the beginning, the middle, and the end of all beings. (10.20)

오 아르쥬나여, 나는 세상의 모든 존재들의 심장 속에 머물고 있는 참 자아[역자주 : 眞我, 梵我, 神性, 聖靈, 宇宙心, 眞空, 大道, 眞法]이니라. 또한 나는 모든 존재들의 시작이기도 하고 중간이기도 하며 끝이기도 하니라.

I am the Super-soul, O Arjuna, seated in the hearts of all living entities. I am the beginning, the middle and the end of all beings.

오 아르쥬나여, 나는 생명을 가진 모든 존재들의 심장 속에 자리하고 있는 극상의 영(大靈)이이요, 모든 존재들의 시작이요, 중간이요, 끝이니라.

20. I am the Self, O Gudakesha, seated in the hearts of all beings! I am the beginning, the middle and also the end of all beings.

오, 구다케샤여, 나는 모든 존재들의 심장 속에 자리하고 있는 참 자아요, 모든 존재들의 시작이며 중간이며 끝이니라.

I am Vishnu among the (twelve) sons of Aditi, I am the radiant sun among the luminaries, I am Marici among the gods of wind, I am the moon among the stars. (10.21)

나는 '아디티'의 열두 명의 아들들 중에서는 비쉬누[역자주 : 창조를 유지하는 신]요, 나는 빛을 발하는 모든 것들 중에서는 가장 눈부신 태양이기도 하며, 나는 바람의 신들 중에서는 가장 힘이 센, 천계(天界)를 다스리는 신(神)인 '마리치'요, 나는 별들 중에서는 달이니라.

Of the Adityas I am Visnu, of lights I am the radiant sun, of the Maruts I am MarIci, and among the stars I am the moon.

21. Among the (twelve) Adityas, I am Vishnu; among the luminaries, the radiant sun; I am Marichi among the (seven or forty-nine) Maruts; among stars the moon am I.

I am the Sama Veda among the Vedas; I am Indra among the Devas; I am the mind among the senses; I am the consciousness in living beings. (10.22)

나는 베다[經典] 중에서도 가장 오래되고 성스러운 경전인 '사마 베다'요, 천신들 중에서는 우두머리 신인 '인드라' 신이며, 감관들 중에서는 마음이요, 생명을 가진 모든 존재들에 있어서는 의식[自覺, 生氣, 人智力]이니라.

Of the Vedas I am the Sama Veda; of the demi-gods I am Indra, the king of heaven; of the senses I am the mind; and in living beings I am the living force [consciousness].

22. Among the Vedas I am the Sama Veda; I am Vasava among the gods; among the senses I am the mind; and I am intelligence among living beings.

I am Shiva among the Rudras; (I am) Kubera among the Yakshas and demons; I am the fire among the Vasus; and I am Meru among the mountain peaks. (10.23)

나는 거친 폭풍과 바람의 신인 '루드라'들 중에서는 파괴의 신인 '쉬바' 신이요, '야크샤'[夜叉]들과 '라크사사'[羅刹]들 중에서는 부(富)의 주님인 '쿠베라'요, 대자연의 측면으로 볼 때의 여덟 신들인 '바수스' 신들 중에서 불의 신인 '아그니' 요, 산봉우리들 중에서는 가장 높은 수미산(須彌山)이니라.

Of all the Rudras I am Lord Siva, of the Yaksas and Raksasas I am the Lord of wealth [Kuvera], of the Vasus I am fire [Agni], and of mountains I am Meru.

23. And, among the Rudras I am Shankara; among the Yakshas and Rakshasas, the Lord of wealth (Kubera); among the Vasus I am Pavaka (fire); and among the (seven) mountains I am the Meru.

Among the priests, O Arjuna, know Me to be the chief, Brihaspati. Among the army generals, I am Skanda; I am the ocean among the bodies of water. (10.24)

오 아르쥬나여, 너는 나를 사제들 중에서는 우두머리 사제이며 기도를 주관하는 사제인 '브리하스파티'로 알아야 하며, 장군들 중에서는 신장[神將]인 '스칸다'로, 수역(水域)들 중에서는 (모든 물이 모이는) 바다라고 알아야 하느니라.

Of priests, O Arjuna, know Me to be the chief, Brhaspati. Of generals I am Kartikeya, and of bodies of water I am the ocean.

24. And, among the household priests (of kings), O Arjuna, know Me to be the chief, Brihaspati; among the army generals I am Skanda; among lakes I am the ocean!

I am Bhrigu among the great sages; I am the monosyllable OM among the words; I am Japa among the Yajna; and I am the Himalaya among the immovables. (10.25)

나는 위대한 성자들 중에서는 고대 일곱 성인 중의 한 명인 '브리구' 요, 소리나는 말 중에서는 가장 심원한 음절인 '옴(Aum)'이요, '야즈나'[禮拜, 供養]들 중에서는 으뜸가는 예배[禮拜]인 '자파'[吟誦 冥想]이며, 움직이지 않는 것들 중에서는 '히말라야' 이니라.

Of the great sages I am Bhrgu; of vibrations I am the transcendental om;. Of sacrifices I am the chanting of the holy names [japa], and of immovable things I am the Himalayas.

25. Among the great sages I am Bhrigu; among words I am the monosyllable Om; among sacrifices I am the sacrifice of silent repetition; among immovable things the Himalayas I am.

COMMENTARY: Repetition of the Mantra is regarded as the best of all Yajnas or sacrifices. There is no loss or injury in this Yajna. Manu says: Whatever else the Brahmana may or may not do, he attains salvation by Japa alone?

I am the Peepal tree among the trees, Narada among the sages, Chitraaratha among the Gandharvas, and sage Kapila among the Siddhas. (10.26)

나는 모든 나무들 중에서는 보리수 나무요, 반은 신적인 존재인 거룩한 성자들 중에서는 '나라다'이며, 유희와 가무의 신(神)인 '간다르바' 들 중에서는 가장 노래를 잘하는 '치트라라다'요, 완전한 경지에 다다른 '싯다[覺者]'들 중에서는 신의 화신인 성자 '카필라'이니라.

Of all trees I am the banyan tree, and of the sages among the demi-gods I am Narada. Of the Gandharvas I am Citraratha, and among perfected beings I am the sage Kapila.

26. Among the trees (I am) the peepul; among the divine sages I am Narada; among Gandharvas I am Chitraratha; among the perfected the sage Kapila.

Know Me as Uchchaihshrava, born at the time of churning the ocean for getting the nectar, among the horses; Airaavata among the elephants; and the King among men. (10.27)

나는 말 들 중에서는 '인드라' 신(神)의 말로서 감로를 얻기 위해 대양을 휘저을 때 태어난 천마(天馬)인 '웃차이 히슈라바스'요, 코끼리들 중에서는 가장 뛰어난 코끼리인 '아이라바타라'요, 인간들 중에서는 왕이니라.

Of horses know Me to be Uccaihsrava, produced during the churning of the ocean for nectar. Of lordly elephants I am Airavata, and among men I am the monarch.

27. Know Me as Ucchaisravas, born of nectar among horses; among lordly elephants (I am) the Airavata; and among men, the king.

I am thunderbolt among the weapons, Kaamadhenu among the cows, and the cupid among the procreators. Among the serpents, I am Vaasuki. (10.28)

나는 무기들 중에서는 최고의 무기인 벼락이요, 소[牛]들 중에서는 모든 소원을 이루어주는 '카마두크'요, 생식케 하는 어버이들 중에서는 사랑의 신이요, 뱀들 중에서는 용(龍)인 '바수키'이다.

Of weapons I am the thunderbolt; among cows I am the surabhi. Of causes for procreation I am Kandarpa, the god of love, and of serpents I am Vasuki.

28. Among weapons I am the thunderbolt; among cows I am the wish-fulfilling cow called Surabhi; I am the progenitor, the god of love; among serpents I am Vasuki.

I am Sheshanaaga among the Naagas, I am Varuna among the water gods, and Aryamaa among the manes. I am Yama among the controllers. (10.29)

나는 하늘을 나는 용들 중에서는 가장 힘 센 '아난타'요, 물 속에 사는 해신(海神)들 중에서 가장 크고 무서운 '바루나'요, 조상[亡者]의 영혼들 중에서는 '아리야마'이며, 제어자들 중에서는 죽음의 신인 '야마' 이니라.

Of the many-hooded Nagas I am Ananta, and among the aquatics I am the demi-god Varuna. Of departed ancestors I am Aryama, and among the dispensers of law I am Yama, the lord of death.

29. I am Ananta among the Nagas; I am Varuna among water-Deities; Aryaman among the manes I am; I am Yama among the governors.

I am Prahlaada among Diti's progeny, time or death among the healers, lion among the beasts, and the Garuda among birds. (10.30)

나는 귀신의 자손들 중에서는 으뜸가는 신자인 '프라흐라다' 요, 고통의 치유자(治癒者)들 중에서는 시간이요 죽음이며, 짐승들 중에서는 백수의 왕인 사자이며, 새들 중에서는 비쉬누 신을 태우고 다니는 가루다[金翅鳥]이다.

Among the Daitya demons I am the devoted Prahlada, among subduers I am time, among beasts I am the lion, and among birds I am Garuda.

30. And, I am Prahlad among the demons; among the reckoners I am time; among beasts I am their king, the lion; and Garuda among birds.

I am the wind among the purifiers, and Lord Rama among the warriors. I am the shark among the fishes, and the Ganges among the rivers. (10.31)

나는 정화자(淨化者)들 중에서는 바람이며, 전사(戰士)들 중에서는 전쟁의 신인 '라마'이며, 물고기들 중에서는 상어이며, 흐르는 강들 중에서는 가장 성스러운 강인 갠지스 강이다.

Of purifiers I am the wind, of the wielders of weapons I am Rama, of fishes I am the shark, and of flowing rivers I am the Ganges.

31. Among the purifiers (or the speeders) I am the wind; Rama among the warriors am I; among the fishes I am the shark; among the streams I am the Ganga.

I am the beginning, the middle, and the end of the creation, O Arjuna. Among the knowledge I am knowledge of the supreme Self. I am logic of the logician. (10.32)

오 아르쥬나여, 나는 창조의 시작이며, 중간이며, 끝이니라. 그리고 지혜 중에서도 가장 으뜸가는 지혜인 '진정한 나(眞我)'에 대한 지혜이며, 논리(論理) 중에서도 종국(終局)의 논리이니라.

Of all creations I am the beginning and the end and also the middle, O Arjuna. Of all sciences I am the spiritual science of the self, and among logicians I am the conclusive truth.

32. Among creations I am the beginning, the middle and also the end, O Arjuna! Among the sciences I am the science of the Self; and I am logic among controversialists.

I am the letter "A" among the alphabets, among the compound words I am the dual compound, I am the endless time, I am the sustainer of all, and have faces on all sides (or I am omniscient). (10.33)

나는 자음과 모음 중에서도 근원의 발음기호인 '아'이며, 합성 글자들 중에서는 자음과 모음 그 어느 것도 우세하지 않는 '드반드바'이요, 나는 끝없는 시간이며, 창조주로써 행위의 열매를 배분하는 분배자이며, 모든 것을 지탱하고 유지하는 자이며, 사방으로 두루 얼굴을 향하고 있는 전지자(全知者)이니라.

Of letters I am the letter A, and among compound words I am the dual compound. I am also inexhaustible time, and of creators I am Brahma.

33. Among the letters of the alphabet, the letter "A" I am, and the dual among the compounds. I am verily the inexhaustible or everlasting time; I am the dispenser (of the fruits of actions), having faces in all directions.

I am the all-devouring death, and also the origin of future beings. Among the feminine nouns I am fame, prosperity, speech, memory, intellect, resolve, and forgiveness. (10.34)

나는 게걸스럽게 모든 것을 먹어치우는 죽음이요, 또한 미래의 존재들을 탄생시키는 근원이기도 하니라. 그리고 여성들에게 있어서는 이름난 평판이요, 부유함이요, 부드러운 말이며, 추억이요, 순정[貞節]이자 인내와 용서이니라.

I am all-devouring death, and I am the generating principle of all that is yet to be. Among women I am fame, fortune, fine speech, memory, intelligence, steadfastness and patience.

34. And I am all-devouring death, and prosperity of those who are to be prosperous; among feminine qualities (I am) fame, prosperity, speech, memory, intelligence, firmness and forgiveness.

I am Brihatsaama among the hymns. I am Gaayatri among the mantras, I am Maargsirsha (November-December) among the months, I am the spring among the seasons. (10.35)

마찬가지로 나는 찬가(讚歌)들 중에서는 '브리하트사마'요, 염송(念誦)들 중에서는 '가야트리'이며, 일년 열두 달 중에서는 추수의 계절인 '마르가시르사[역자주: 인도의 추수철이 11월-12월이기 때문이다]'요, 계절들 중에서는 꽃들이 피어나는 봄이니라.

Of the hymns in the Sama Veda I am the Brhat-sama, and of poetry I am the Gayatri. Of months I am Margasia [November-December], and of seasons I am flower-bearing spring.

35. Among the hymns also I am the Brihatsaman; among metres Gayatri am I; among the months I am Margasirsa; among seasons (I am) the flowery season.

I am the fraud of the gambler; I am the splendor of the splendid; I am victory (of the victorious); I am resolution (of the resolute); I am the goodness of the good. (10.36)

나는 또한 사기도박판에 있어서는 협잡꾼이요, 빛을 발하는 것들 중에서는 그 광휘(光輝)이며, 나는 승리 중의 승리이며, 굳은 결심 중의 결심이요, 착함 중의 착함이니라.

I am also the gambling of cheats, and of the splendid I am the splendor. I am victory, I am adventure, and I am the strength of the strong.

36. I am the gambling of the fraudulent; I am the splendour of the splendid; I am victory; I am determination (of those who are determined); I am the goodness of the good.

I am Vaasudeva among the Vrishni, Arjuna among the Paandavas, Vyaasa among the sages, and Ushanaa among the poets. (10.37)

나는 '브리슈니' 부족 중에서는 신의 화신인 '바수데바'요, 판두족 중에서는 인간 중의 으뜸인 '아르쥬나'이며, 사려깊은 사람 중에서는 가장 영적으로 뛰어난 시인인 '우사나'이니라.

Of the descendants of Vrsni I am Vasudeva, and of the Pandavas I am Arjuna. Of the sages I am Vyasa, and among great thinkers I am Usana.

37. Among Vrishnis I am Vasudeva; among the Pandavas I am Arjuna; among sages I am Vyasa; among poets I am Usana, the poet.

I am the power of rulers, the statesmanship of the seekers of victory, I am silence among the secrets, and the Self-knowledge of the knowledgeable. (10.38)

나는 다스리는 자에게는 그 힘이요, 승리를 추구하는 자에게 있어서는 그 수완이며, 비밀들 속에서는 그 침묵이고, 지혜를 추구하는 자에게는 진정한 자신 자신을 알게 하는 그 지혜이니라.

Among all means of suppressing lawlessness I am punishment, and of those who seek victory I am morality. Of secret things I am silence, and of the wise I am the wisdom.

38. Among the punishers I am the sceptre; among those who seek victory I am statesmanship; and also among secrets I am silence; knowledge among knowers I am.

I am the origin or seed of all beings, O Arjuna. There is nothing, animate or inanimate, that can exist without Me. (See also 7.10 and 9.18) (10.39)

오 아르쥬나여, 나는 모든 존재들의 근원이며 씨앗이니, 나 없이는 생명을 가진 것이나 생명이 없는 것이나 그 무엇도 있을 수 없느니라.(7장10절과 9장 18절을 참조하라)

Furthermore, O Arjuna, I am the generating seed of all existences. There is no being -- moving or nonmoving -- that can exist without Me.

39. And whatever is the seed of all beings, that also am I, O Arjuna! There is no being, whether moving or unmoving, that can exist without Me.

COMMENTARY: I am the primeval seed from which all creation has come into existence. I am the seed of everything. I am the Self of everything. Nothing can exist without Me. Everything is of My nature. I am the soul of everything.

There is no end of My divine manifestations, O Arjuna. This is only a brief description by Me of the extent of My divine manifestations. (10.40)

오 적들을 쓸어버리는 강력한 정복자여, 이렇게 나의 거룩한 현현(顯現)의 다양함에는 끝이 없나니, 내가 지금까지 그대에게 말해준 것은 다만 나의 무한한 풍성함의 일부를 드러낸 것에 지나지 않느니라.

O mighty conqueror of enemies, there is no end to My divine manifestations. What I have spoken to you is but a mere indication of My infinite opulences.

40. There is no end to My divine glories, O Arjuna, but this is a brief statement by Me of the particulars of My divine glories!

Whatever is endowed with glory, brilliance, and power; know that to be a manifestation of a fraction of My splendor. (10.41)

그러므로 그 무엇이든 영예롭고, 찬란하고, 능력을 부여받은 것은, 나의 광명(光明) 한 조각이 이 세상에 현현(顯現)되어진 것임을 알라.

Know that all opulent, beautiful and glorious creations spring from but a spark of My splendor.

41. Whatever being there is that is glorious, prosperous or powerful, that know thou to be a manifestation of a part of My splendour.

What is the need for this detailed knowledge, O Arjuna? I continually support the entire universe by a small fraction of My energy. (10.42)

오 아르쥬나여, 하지만 네가 이 모든 것을 자세히 안다해도 그 지식이 무슨 소용이 있겠느냐? 나는 실재하고 있고[역자주:眞我 외에 모든 것은 自性이 없는 환상에 불과하다], 온 우주란 투사된 나의 작은 에너지 한 조각에 의해 끊임없이 지탱되는 것에 불과한 것을.

But what need is there, Arjuna, for all this detailed knowledge? With a single fragment of Myself I pervade and support this entire universe.

42. But of what avail to thee is the knowledge of all these details, O Arjuna? I exist, supporting this whole world by one part of Myself.

Thus in the Upanishads of the glorious Bhagavad Gita, the science of the Eternal, the scripture of Yoga, the dialogue between Sri Krishna and Arjuna, ends the tenth discourse entitled:

이것으로 불변의 과학이자 요가 경전인 바가바드 기타 제10장, 스승 크리슈나와 그의 제자 아르쥬나 사이의 대화를 마친다.
